About Us

Our aim, here at Modern Baking Systems, is to offer you the right equipment for your needs with the support that you can rely on.

The Vision

Ever since David Smith established the company in 1973 the aim of Modern Baking Systems has been the same, to meet the needs of our customers. In the beginning, this meant David supplying some new equipment but also servicing the customer’s bakery equipment while his wife, Janet, took on the secretarial and administrative role.

It soon became apparent that customers required more than just service work to their aging equipment and so David acquired a small factory to enable him to offer the facility to bakers of a full refurbishment of their equipment and also store used and new equipment.

The business rapidly grew during the 1970’s and 80’s leading to a move in 1985 to a 20,000 sq.ft factory to enable not only refurbishment but by this time the manufacture of bakery equipment, with the company specializing in the manufacture of provers and retarders.

Present

David Smith retired in 2005 leaving the running of the family business to his two sons, Alan and Barry, both of whom have now been in this business for over 25 years.

The company benefits from years of experience dismantling and rebuilding practically every type of machine from small mixers to traveling ovens, as well as supplying equipment to markets all over the world.

In more recent times the company has concentrated on advising and supplying quality new equipment and offering the very best aftercare service. However, we appreciate that some customers still require refurbished equipment so we often stock some very high quality pieces of used equipment ready for us to refurbish in our factory, and we can of course still refurbish our customers own equipment.
